Mumbai Congress Leaders to Skip Protest Against Public Security Bill, Sparks Internal Discontent

Mumbai : The protest organized on Wednesday (September 10) against the Public Security Bill has stirred fresh debates within Mumbai Congress after it was revealed that Mumbai Congress President Varsha Gaikwad and State President Harshvardhan Sapkal will remain absent.

While the Congress and INDIA bloc had called for a major agitation opposing the bill, the absence of these two prominent leaders has left party workers questioning the seriousness of the leadership. Sapkal is reportedly abroad, while Gaikwad will also not attend the protest.

In recent months, several Mumbai Congress leaders have expressed dissatisfaction with Gaikwad’s style of functioning, accusing her of neglecting organizational strengthening and city issues, especially on protest movements. Allegations of factional politics under her leadership have also created unease in the party ranks.

The protest was expected to highlight Congress’s opposition to the bill, which it claims directly impacts public security. Workers were urged to participate in large numbers, but some have raised concerns, asking, “What’s the point if top leaders themselves skip the protest?”

This is not the first time Congress has faced internal drama over the issue. Earlier, senior leaders had criticized the lack of strong opposition to the bill in the legislature, with instructions even being issued for a written report on the matter.
