Mumbai:- Modak Sagar Lake, one of the seven key lakes supplying water to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, began overflowing early this morning at approximately 6:27 AM. In response, authorities opened one of the lake’s gates by 1 foot to manage the water level, releasing a discharge of 1,022 cusecs per second.
The lake, which plays a crucial role in Mumbai’s water supply, has a total storage capacity of 12,892.5 crore liters (1,28,925 million liters). The overflowing of the lake signals a positive development in terms of water reserves for the city, especially ahead of the monsoon peak. However, officials continue to monitor the discharge closely to prevent any downstream flooding.
