Navi Mumbai : A fresh linguistic controversy has surfaced in Seawoods, Navi Mumbai, after the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) objected to a signboard written solely in Gujarati at a BJP MLA’s public relations office. The office, situated in Sector-42, is reportedly linked to Gujarat MLA Virendrasinh Bahadursinh Jadeja.
Acting on complaints from locals, MNS city secretary Sachin Kadam, along with other party leaders, visited the site but found the office locked. Kadam described the use of only Gujarati as “an insult to the Marathi language,” while emphasizing the party’s commitment to peace and cultural respect.
The MNS has demanded that Marathi be added to the signboard by evening, warning of aggressive action if the demand isn’t fulfilled within 24 hours. BJP district president Dr. Rajesh Patil responded, saying he has spoken with the concerned individuals, and they have assured the signboard will be changed promptly.
This incident adds to the broader discourse around linguistic identity and regional representation in Maharashtra’s public spaces.
