Mumbai :– The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has given an eight-day ultimatum to banks in Naigaon, Mumbai, demanding that they conduct all operations in Marathi. The party has warned of strict action if the banks fail to comply.
MNS activists reportedly visited several banks in the area, insisting that signboards, forms, and customer service should be available in Marathi. The party claims that the use of other languages over Marathi disrespects local culture and violates the state’s official language policy.
An MNS spokesperson stated, “Marathi is the official language of Maharashtra, and banks must prioritize it. If they do not make the necessary changes within eight days, we will take strong action.”
This is not the first time the MNS has pushed for Marathi dominance in business and public services. The party has previously targeted shops, toll booths, and even railway announcements over language issues.
Bank officials have yet to respond publicly to the ultimatum. Authorities are monitoring the situation to prevent any potential unrest.
