Mumbai : The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has officially unveiled the Mandale Metro Depot in Mankhurd, touted as Asia’s largest and most technologically advanced metro facility. Spread across 32 hectares, the depot is designed to support the upcoming Metro Line 2B, strengthening connectivity between Mumbai’s western suburbs and the eastern corridor.
The state-of-the-art depot features a two-level layout capable of housing 72 metro rakes, along with a G+3 Depot Control Centre to monitor and manage real-time train operations. Emphasizing sustainability, the facility is equipped with a 175 kilolitre-per-day effluent treatment plant to reduce environmental impact.
A key highlight is India’s longest metro test track, complemented by modern noise suppression systems to ensure smoother and quieter operations. The Mandale Depot marks a major milestone in Mumbai’s ongoing urban mobility expansion, promising enhanced efficiency and a superior commuting experience for millions of passengers.
