Mithi River Crosses Danger Mark in Mumbai, Residents Evacuated from Kurla

Mumbai witnessed a critical situation on Monday as the water level of the Mithi River rose above the danger mark following continuous heavy rainfall. Low-lying areas near Kurla, especially Kranti Nagar, were the worst affected.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), evacuated residents from vulnerable zones and shifted them to a safer location at Magan Nathuram Municipal School.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar reviewed the situation as authorities kept a close watch on rising water levels and prepared for additional evacuations if required.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, warning of extremely heavy rainfall. In response, schools and colleges across the city and suburbs have been ordered shut, while offices have been advised to allow employees to work from home.

Severe waterlogging has been reported in several areas, including Gulalwadi, Sewri, Nagpada, Byculla, Wadala, and Matunga, causing major traffic disruptions.

Authorities have appealed to citizens to remain indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and cooperate with disaster management teams during the ongoing relief operations.
