Mumbai :- The National Commission for Minorities has directed the Maharashtra Chief Secretary to conduct an investigation into allegations against BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar for allegedly threatening Christian priests.
The directive comes following a complaint filed by church activist Cyril Dara. The Commission has asked for a detailed report by August 17.
Padalkar, during a public address in Sangli on June 17, allegedly offered a reward of ₹11 lakh to anyone who kills a Christian missionary involved in religious conversions.
In response, the Christian community staged a protest at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan on July 11, condemning Padalkar’s remarks.
The controversy follows a tragic incident in Sangli, where a 28-year-old pregnant woman reportedly died by suicide amid allegations of dowry harassment and pressure to convert to Christianity.
