New Delhi : Amid escalating global trade tensions, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora has urged the Government of India to take bold and proactive policy steps in response to the recent U.S. tariff increases impacting Indian exports.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Deora drew historical parallels, stating, “Crises create opportunities if we act boldly.” He referred to key turning points in India’s economic journey — the 1991 crisis that led to liberalisation, and the COVID-19 pandemic which spurred reforms in the space sector and introduced Production Linked Incentives (PLIs) to promote self-reliance.
Deora stressed that the United States’ protectionist stance should be a wake-up call for India. “America’s tariffs must push us to double down on R&D and manufacturing,” he stated, calling for a renewed focus on innovation and industrial capacity in response to shifting global dynamics.
