Microsoft Cuts Jobs to Refocus Strategy

Microsoft has announced plans to cut 3 percent of its workforce—amounting to over 6,000 employees. While layoffs have become relatively common in the tech sector over the past two years, this round is especially notable for Microsoft. It marks the company’s largest staff reduction since early 2023, when 10,000 employees were let go in a major restructuring effort. According to a statement given to The Verge, Microsoft said the layoffs are part of “organizational changes necessary to best position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace.”
