Mumbai : The introduction of Maratha reservation in Maharashtra has reshaped the competitive landscape of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) exams. The new policy has pushed cut-off marks higher for Other Backward Classes (OBC), while candidates from the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) are expected to benefit.
The MPSC State Service Main Exam 2024 results, recently declared, shortlisted 1,516 candidates for the interview stage. This year, the Open (General) category recorded its highest cut-off in six years at 507 marks.
Category-wise cut-offs stood at:
Open: 507
SEBC: 490
OBC: 485
NT: 463
EWS: 445
SC: 445.75
ST: 415
With Marathas now shifted out of the EWS quota, the competition in the EWS category has eased, giving candidates from communities like Brahmin, Lingayat, Marwadi, and Jain a better chance at qualifying.
Conversely, OBC candidates are facing intensified competition, as more Maratha aspirants are expected to contest in that pool, driving cut-offs higher.
In essence:
EWS aspirants gain an edge due to reduced competition.
OBC candidates face tougher odds with rising cut-offs
