Mumbai:- A birthday celebration in Ghatkopar East has led to a criminal case after a video surfaced showing a man brandishing a sword during the event. The Pantnagar Police have booked Imran Shaikh, Gaurav Darekar, and others under the Indian Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act for flouting a weapon prohibition order issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mumbai.
The investigation began after Police Head Constable Bhaupatil Ghughe, 45, of the Anti-Goonda Squad, received a video on his phone. The clip showed Imran Shaikh celebrating his birthday with friends at Lavender Bow on 90 Feet Road, Ghatkopar East, where Gaurav Darekar was seen presenting Shaikh with a sword.
In the footage, Darekar places an orange shawl around Shaikh’s neck, feeds him cake, and hands him a sword wrapped in a red and gold scabbard. Shaikh is then seen drawing the sword and waving it in the air.
Following the incident, a case was registered against the accused for violating Sections 4 and 25 of the Indian Arms Act, and Sections 37(1)(A) and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. The case was filed based on a complaint submitted by HC Ghughe on behalf of the government.
