Mumbai | In a swift operation on the evening the Malwani Police apprehended a 35-year-old man in possession of an illegal firearm near M.V. Desai Ground in Malad’s Malwani area. The accused, identified as Arif Ismail Shah, a resident of Khed in Ratnagiri district, was nabbed by a police team led by PSI Dr. Deepak Hinde around 8:05 PM following a tip-off.
During the search conducted in the presence of witnesses, the police recovered a silver and black Indian-made pistol valued at approximately ₹75,000 along with four live cartridges worth around ₹4,000. Shah reportedly confessed to bringing the weapon from Goa with the intent to sell it in Malwani.
A case has been registered at Malwani Police Station under BNS sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act, as well as sections 37(1)(a) and 135 of the Mumbai Police Act. Shah is currently in police custody, and further investigation is ongoing to determine the source and intended buyers of the weapon.
