Mumbai, June 12, 2025 — In a shocking act of animal cruelty, a man in Malad has been caught on CCTV footage throwing a pet cat from the 9th floor of a high-rise building, resulting in the cat’s death. The accused, identified as Kasam Sayyed, has been booked by the police following the emergence of the disturbing video.
The incident occurred in a residential society in Malad where the cat, affectionately known as Kalu, was a familiar sight. Initially, the cat’s owner believed Kalu had been killed in a road accident after discovering her lifeless body in the society compound. However, a later review of security camera footage revealed the horrifying truth.
The video shows Sayyed standing near a window by the elevator, where Kalu had perched herself on a shoe rack. After a brief glance, Sayyed is seen casually picking up the cat and forcefully throwing her out of the window. He then leans out to confirm that she had fallen.
Following the confirmation of the act through CCTV evidence, the cat’s owner filed a police complaint. Sayyed has since been booked under Section 429 of the Indian Penal Code (mischief by killing or maiming animals) and relevant provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
The case has sparked widespread outrage among residents and animal rights activists, who are demanding the strictest possible legal action against the accused. Several animal welfare organizations have expressed shock and called for justice for Kalu, emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws in India.
The police have assured that they are treating the matter with utmost seriousness and further investigation is underway.
