Maharashtra Cabinet Minister and senior Shinde faction leader Tanaji Sawant was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune on Friday after experiencing sudden health complications during official duties.
According to sources close to the minister, Sawant was attending a series of administrative meetings when he began to feel acute discomfort. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, his team rushed him to Ruby Hall Clinic—a respected multi-speciality hospital in Pune known for its advanced critical care facilities.
Hospital authorities have confirmed that the minister is currently under continuous observation in the ICU. However, details regarding his diagnosis and medical condition have not been disclosed at this stage. The hospital, along with the minister’s family, is expected to release an official update soon.
Sawant, who was recently sworn in as part of the expanded Maharashtra Cabinet under Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, had a packed schedule in Pune and surrounding districts. All his upcoming engagements have now been suspended until further notice.
The incident prompted swift communication to senior state leadership, including Deputy Chief Ministers and top officials. Chief Minister Shinde is said to be closely monitoring the situation and has been in touch with Sawant’s family and doctors.
Leaders across party lines have extended their best wishes. Notably, members of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) faction have also called for complete transparency regarding the minister’s health and offered support during this uncertain time.
Tanaji Sawant, known for his grassroots political style and administrative diligence, has been an important face in the Shinde-led cabinet. His sudden hospitalization has sparked concern across the political spectrum, as colleagues and supporters await word on his recovery.
Further bulletins will be issued by Ruby Hall Clinic or government spokespersons as more information becomes available.
