Pune : With Zilla Parishad, Municipal Corporation, and Municipal Council elections approaching, Congress leaders have urged newly appointed office-bearers to focus on issue-based campaigns and connect with voters, particularly the youth.
Speaking at a training workshop in Khadakwasla, Legislative Council group leader Satej alias Bunty Patil called on party workers to study ward demarcations, voter lists, and group structures, register objections if needed, and leverage social media for outreach. He also urged holding at least one weekly protest on local public issues to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.
Congress Working Committee member Sachin Rao guided participants on “Social Justice and Census,” stressing the need for accurate population data and awareness of Rahul Gandhi’s push for a caste-based census. Folk poet Shahir Sambhaji Bhagat warned against the commercialization and communalization of cultural festivals, while senior journalist Niranjan Takle accused certain forces of fostering social hatred and undermining democratic institutions.
Former bureaucrat Mahesh Zagade emphasized understanding administrative systems, warning that the bureaucracy often functions as if it were the government itself.
The workshop will conclude on August 12 with sessions by senior Congress leaders, journalists, and historians.
