Pune : In a major relief for daily commuters, the Maharashtra government under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has approved the construction of the third and fourth rail tracks between Pune and Lonavala. The announcement was made by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, and Pune MP, Murlidhar Mohol on Wednesday.

Mohol said the project, a joint initiative of the Central and State Governments, will significantly improve suburban train connectivity and ease congestion on the busy route. “The long-pending demand has finally been approved. This is a big gift for the people of Pune,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The cost of the project will be shared by both governments, with earlier discussions also involving the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporations. Mohol added that the new tracks will increase the number of trains, benefiting industrial workers, students, and daily passengers while reducing congestion caused by goods trains.
