Maharashtra Government Officially Renames Islampur As ‘Ishwarpur’ After Centre’s Approval

Mumbai : The Maharashtra Government has officially renamed Islampur village in Sangli district as Ishwarpur, following approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

According to a notification issued by the Urban Development Department on November 4, 2025, the Islampur Nagar Parishad will now be known as Urun-Ishwarpur Nagar Parishad.

The proposal, pending for several months, was cleared by the Centre through a letter dated November 3, 2025. Subsequently, the state government issued its final order under the General Administration Department.

Deputy Secretary Aniruddha Jewlikar signed the order on behalf of the Governor of Maharashtra. The notification stated that the renaming was carried out under provisions of the Maharashtra District Councils and Panchayat Samitis, Gram Panchayats, and Municipal Councils Act.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared the development on social media, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for approving the proposal. He said the decision upholds local aspirations and cultural sentiments.

The renamed Urun-Ishwarpur Nagar Parishad will now use its new identity in all official communications, government records, and administrative proceedings. Local authorities are expected to update signboards, documents, and correspondence to reflect the change.
