Mumbai :- In a decisive step toward ensuring milk purity, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is set to introduce 50 portable milk scanners across the state by August 2025. These on-the-spot testing devices will help officials detect adulteration instantly, eliminating delays linked to traditional lab-based testing.

“These scanners will allow us to test milk quality on-site and take swift action,” said FDA Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar. The handheld devices can detect up to 16 parameters, including fat content, protein, SNF, and harmful adulterants like detergent, starch, urea, and ammonium sulfate.

The FDA plans to deploy the scanners at city entry points and other high-risk locations to intercept suspicious consignments. Additionally, two advanced Milkoscan machines using FTIR technology will be added to FDA labs to enhance in-depth milk analysis.
