Maharashtra Braces for Heavy Rains: IMD Issues Orange Alert in 6 Districts

Mumbai – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for six districts in Maharashtra—Satara, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Raigad, and Buldhana—warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall on Monday. The alert signals a moderate to high risk of flooding, transport disruptions, and infrastructure strain, urging residents to remain vigilant.

The early arrival of the southwest monsoon, nearly 12 days ahead of schedule, has triggered widespread downpours, especially across the Konkan and western Maharashtra regions. In Ratnagiri, rising river levels have sparked flood concerns, while Solapur is closely monitoring the Bhima River, which has seen a sharp increase in water flow.

Mumbai has been drenched in continuous rainfall since Sunday night, causing waterlogging in several pockets, including the JJ flyover and low-lying suburbs. Pune’s Indapur taluka recorded intense showers, with water inundating homes and even entering a government hospital, prompting swift response from local authorities.

In anticipation of possible power disruptions, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has activated emergency protocols. District administrations across affected regions have advised residents to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and strictly follow safety guidelines.

With more rain expected over the next 48 hours, officials are closely monitoring the situation to mitigate risks and ensure public safety.
