A couple living in Malad has been detained by the Malvani police for allegedly assaulting their three children, after the woman’s mother raised a complaint upon witnessing the abuse.
The accused, 32-year-old Chetna Patil and her live-in partner, 40-year-old Pankaj Kumar, were staying in Malwani near Patil’s mother, 54-year-old Poonam Parmar. Patil has a 7-year-old son, Priyank, from her first marriage, and two more children—Raghav (1) and Vivani (2)—with Kumar.
Parmar told police she had seen the couple beating Priyank back in 2020 when they were living in Andheri. Neighbours had also shown her disturbing videos of them hitting the child. In an attempt to help, she convinced them to move to Malad, closer to her home, hoping the abuse would stop.
But on Saturday, during a visit, Parmar allegedly saw Kumar hitting Priyank again. She immediately approached the Malvani police and filed a complaint, stating the children were being subjected to regular physical and mental torture. She claimed they had visible injury marks on their bodies.
Following the complaint, police registered a case under section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act and section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The couple has been detained, and all three children have been handed over to the Child Welfare Committee for protection and care.
