At least 30 people have died following a landslide near the Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, triggered by heavy monsoon rains. The incident occurred around 3 PM near Inderprastha Bhojnalaya at Adhkwari, midway along the 12-km trek to the hilltop shrine.
Rescue operations are underway with the Army, NDRF, and local authorities involved. The Vaishno Devi yatra has been suspended, and emergency services have evacuated around 3,500 people in Jammu. Several vehicles remain trapped, and ongoing rainfall has worsened the situation. Union Home Minister Amit Shah called the incident “extremely tragic” and assured full support from the Centre.
Authorities have urged residents and travelers to stay vigilant and follow safety advisories.
