Mumbai :- Mumbai witnessed tragedy early Saturday as a landslide struck Varsha Nagar in Vikhroli (Parksite) around 2:30 AM following relentless overnight rain. The collapse of soil and debris onto a hut claimed two lives and left two others injured.
Heavy downpours have caused severe waterlogging in several parts of the city including Dadar, Sion, Kings Circle, and Gandhi Nagar, disrupting road and rail traffic.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Palghar, warning of extremely heavy rainfall in the coming hours. Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and remain cautious as the risk of flooding and further landslides persists.
Emergency teams are on the ground carrying out rescue operations and clearing debris, while the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is closely monitoring the situation.
