Thane : A doctor at the KDMC-run hospital in Shastri Nagar has been accused of attendance fraud after allegedly marking his presence for 20th April on 15th April, raising concerns over malpractice in civic hospitals.
The incident came to light during a routine inspection by KDMC (Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation) officials, who noticed the discrepancy in the attendance register. Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter, suspecting possible manipulation to claim undue salary or benefits.
KDMC officials stated that strict action will be taken against those involved in such fraudulent practices. “This is a serious violation of rules. We will investigate whether this was an isolated case or part of a larger scam,” said a senior civic official.
The incident has sparked criticism from local activists, who allege that such irregularities are common in municipal hospitals, leading to inefficiency and misuse of public funds. Calls for a thorough audit of attendance records across all civic-run facilities have grown louder.
The doctor in question has yet to issue a statement, while the KDMC has assured transparency in the probe. Further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
