Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor’s Jab We Met continues to be a beloved classic, capturing the essence of love and romance in its purest form. Even years after its release, the characters of Geet and Aditya Kashyap remain unforgettable for Bollywood fans worldwide.
At the ongoing WAVES 2025 event, Kareena took part in a panel moderated by filmmaker Karan Johar, where she reflected on the enduring impact of the film. She shared how Jab We Met beautifully portrays the spirit of a lively Punjabi girl, and why it resonates so deeply with audiences.
Kareena revealed the one film she’d want the global audience to experience: “I would say Jab We Met because it embodies the spirit of a young Indian girl, a young Punjabi girl. Every girl has that spark in her, that dream in her eyes, and the freedom to choose. She has the right to feel love however she wants. I think this connection is universal, and it will continue to resonate with people around the world.”
Released in 2007, Jab We Met tells the story of Aditya Kashyap (Shahid Kapoor), a heartbroken businessman who boards a train aimlessly after attending his ex-girlfriend’s wedding. On the journey, he meets Geet Dhillon (Kareena Kapoor), a lively and impulsive girl who is on her way to elope with her lover. As Aditya is swept into her chaotic life, he begins to rediscover joy and adventure, eventually falling in love with her.
Geet’s bubbly, talkative, and free-spirited personality perfectly complements Aditya’s quiet, reserved nature—a dynamic that beautifully captures the saying, “Opposites attract.” This contrast, along with the film’s enchanting soundtrack featuring tracks like Ye Ishq Hai, Mauja Hi Mauja, Tum Se Hi, and Aaoge Jab Tum, has made the film an enduring favorite, earning it a cult status among fans.
During the panel, Kareena also spoke about the possibility of working in Hollywood, saying, “It just never organically happened. Films are my passion—they run in my veins. I was born into this family. Times are changing, and you never know. Chasing something has never been part of my personality, but if it’s meant to happen, maybe a Hindi-English film will come along. After all, even Spielberg is watching our movies!”
