Mumbai :- In a major breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, the Kalyan-Dombivli Police have dismantled a drug racket and seized mephedrone (MD) worth ₹2.12 crore from a flat in Kalyan’s rural outskirts. The raid, conducted on June 26 by Division‑3 officers, was reportedly aligned with the International Day Against Drug Abuse.
Acting on a tip-off from private informants, police raided a flat near the Badlapur-Pipeline Crossing along Taloja MIDC Road. Inside, they discovered approximately 1.93 kg of mephedrone, a synthetic drug frequently abused by youth.
Three people were arrested during the operation — two men aged 20 and 26, and a 21-year-old woman. Investigators say the woman played a key role in promoting and distributing the drug among younger consumers.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Atul Zende, the arrested suspects disclosed links to a wider drug network. This led to the swift arrest of two additional members involved in the operation.
The raid follows a series of earlier narcotics crackdowns in the region, including the seizure of 30 kg of cannabis and the detention of three suspects in the Khadakpada and Mahatma Phule police station limits.
Police Insight and Next Steps:
DCP Zende revealed that the accused, some employed in call centres and private companies, had rented the flat specifically for drug-related activities. Authorities are now working to trace the network’s masterminds and any possible international links. Further arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
This latest bust underscores the intensified anti-drug campaign led by Division‑3 police, targeting the rising menace of synthetic drug distribution in urban and semi-urban areas. It also raises alarm over how suburban flats are increasingly being misused to target youth in the growing illegal drug trade.
