Juinagar Residents Alarmed by Toxic Stench, Demand MPCB Action Amid Health Scare

Navi Mumbai : Panic gripped the Juinagar area late Sunday night as a strong chemical stench engulfed the locality, leaving residents struggling with throat irritation, respiratory issues, and a growing fear of toxic exposure.
The odour, which began around 10:15 PM, was so intense that several locals initially suspected a gas leak and contacted Mahanagar Gas. However, the company later clarified that no leakage or incident had occurred on their end.
Residents believe the stench originated from unidentified chemical emissions, sparking serious concerns about air quality and the possible illegal discharge of hazardous substances in the area.
By Monday morning, many reported waking up with dry throats, coughing, and breathing discomfort. Fearing long-term health risks, citizens submitted a formal complaint to the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) at its Raigad Bhavan office in CBD Belapur.
In their letter, residents emphasized that this is not a one-off event. They claim that industrial pollution has been steadily increasing in Juinagar, posing a continuous threat to public health. The citizens have urged the MPCB to conduct a thorough investigation and take strict action against any polluters.
Warning of an impending protest march if no action is taken, locals have made it clear that they will not tolerate further neglect of environmental safety in their neighbourhood.
