The honeymoon murder case involving Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi has taken a sinister twist, revealing a deeply disturbing conspiracy that spanned months and involved fake identities, burner phones, and emotional manipulation. Raja was found dead in a gorge near Meghalaya’s Wei Sawdong Falls on June 2, just days after he went missing with his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi while on a honeymoon trip. What appeared at first to be a tragic accident has now been uncovered as a pre-planned murder with roots in deception and betrayal.
Police investigations have confirmed that a man listed as “Sanjay Verma” in Sonam’s call records—whom she contacted more than 230 times between March and April—never actually existed. The identity was fabricated by Raj Kushwaha, Sonam’s alleged lover, who used forged documents to obtain a SIM card and apps like Truecaller to mask his real identity. The call logs, with durations ranging from 30 minutes to over an hour, raised red flags for investigators, leading to a deeper probe that revealed the conspiracy.
As new evidence continues to surface, it points strongly toward premeditation. The frequency of communication, the use of false digital identities, and the careful timing of movements suggest the murder was orchestrated well in advance. Raja’s father has also made grave allegations, accusing Sonam of involvement in black magic and demanding strict punishment for her role in the crime.
Sonam was arrested on June 9 in Uttar Pradesh, following a nationwide manhunt. A second weapon, a traditional machete known as a dao, was recently recovered from the crime scene, supporting suspicions that more than one person was involved. A farewell video of Sonam crying during Raja’s body recovery has gone viral, sparking debate over the authenticity of her emotions and intensifying public outrage.
The Meghalaya police have called it one of the state’s first well-planned murders, pointing to the use of burner phones, coordinated cross-state travel, and digital manipulation as evidence of a larger conspiracy. Investigators are now focusing on Raj Kushwaha’s role, probing whether he was actively involved in the killing or supported Sonam in destroying evidence and evading suspicion. Digital forensics teams are working to retrieve deleted messages, financial trails, and hidden communication between the accused.
As the investigation deepens, more arrests are expected in the coming days. What began as a honeymoon has turned into a national horror story, one that has exposed how technology, emotional manipulation, and cold calculation were weaponised to turn love into murder.
