Navi Mumbai : As part of the Maharashtra Government’s Amrut Tree Plantation initiative and Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan 6.0, a plantation drive of indigenous fruit-bearing trees was held near the holding pond in Sector 8, Belapur, to enhance urban biodiversity and green cover.
Under the guidance of Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, the initiative aims to support urban wildlife by planting native species that provide natural habitats for birds and animals.
A total of 25 fruit trees—including Jamun, Guava, Bakul, Custard Apple, and Cashew—were planted during the drive, which took place in the presence of Kishanrao Palande, Deputy Commissioner of the Garden Department (Zone I).
Members of the NGO Anulom actively participated in the initiative, contributing to the plantation efforts. The focus on native species highlights NMMC’s commitment to fostering long-term ecological balance and sustainable urban development.
