On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) escalated its weather warning to a red alert for seven districts in Karnataka, anticipating extremely heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and strong surface winds. The districts under red alert include Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan.
Bengaluru, the state capital, continues to experience persistent rainfall and remains under an orange alert. Between 8:30 AM and 2:30 PM on Tuesday, the city recorded 0.4 mm of rainfall. Despite the relatively low precipitation, the IMD maintains the orange alert status for Bengaluru due to the potential for significant urban impact, including waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
Residents in the affected regions are advised to exercise caution, stay updated with official weather advisories, and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of inclement weather.
