Mumbai, Oct 19: In a significant step towards advancing cancer care in India, ICICI Bank has pledged ₹625 crore to establish one of the country’s largest radiation therapy facilities at Tata Memorial Centre’s (TMC) Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research & Education in Cancer (ACTREC), Navi Mumbai. The groundbreaking and foundation stone unveiling for the “ICICI Foundation Block for Radiation Oncology” took place today.

The 11-storey building, covering 3.4 lakh square feet, will house 12 state-of-the-art Linear Accelerators (LINACs) and other cutting-edge cancer treatment technologies. Once operational, it will provide radiation therapy to 7,200 patients annually and offer OPD consultations and diagnostics to 25,000 new patients each year. The facility is expected to be completed by 2027 and will be implemented by ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, the CSR arm of ICICI Bank.

This initiative is part of the Bank’s larger ₹1,800 crore commitment to TMC for setting up three advanced cancer care facilities across Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra), Mullanpur (New Chandigarh), and Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Pradeep Kumar Sinha, Chairman, ICICI Bank, said, “We are proud to partner with TMC to strengthen critical healthcare infrastructure. Once completed, this centre will be among India’s largest for radiation therapy, significantly expanding access to advanced cancer care.”

Mr. Sandeep Batra, Executive Director, ICICI Bank, emphasized the bank’s continued commitment to healthcare, noting that construction of the Visakhapatnam facility began four months ago. “The new Navi Mumbai block will increase the centre’s current radiation treatment capacity six-fold,” he said.

Expressing gratitude, Dr. Sudeep Gupta, Director, TMC, stated, “These facilities will provide state-of-the-art, evidence-based cancer therapy to underserved patients and enhance our capacity for years to come.”
Dr. Pankaj Chaturvedi, Director, ACTREC, added that the new centre would also serve as a hub for medical education, training, and research in cancer care.
Dr. C.S. Pramesh, Director, Tata Memorial Hospital, lauded ICICI Bank’s proactive engagement, calling the partnership a vital step in delivering equitable and high-quality cancer treatment across India.

The upcoming facility will feature advanced radiation and radiology units, including MRI, CT scanners, and CT simulators, along with dedicated research and training wings for medical professionals.

With this landmark initiative, ICICI Bank and Tata Memorial Centre aim to significantly boost India’s capacity for affordable, high-quality cancer treatment and research.
