Delhi : Five Bangladeshi nationals, aged between 20 and 25, were apprehended on August 4, 2025, while attempting to breach the security perimeter of Delhi’s Red Fort—which has been closed to the public from July 15 to August 15 due to stringent Independence Day security protocols .

Security personnel noticed suspicious behavior near a control point and detained the group during routine checks. The individuals failed to present any valid Indian identification or entry passes. Subsequent scrutiny revealed fake Aadhaar cards, and additional documentation confirmed their Bangladeshi citizenship .

Authorities say the group entered India illegally approximately three to four months ago and were reportedly working as daily-wage laborers in the Delhi area . No weapons or suspicious materials were recovered, but the incident has raised significant concerns over broader security vulnerabilities at one of India’s most sensitive heritage sites as Independence Day approaches. Security around the Red Fort has been further heightened in response .

Simultaneously, disciplinary action has been taken against Delhi Police personnel: seven officers were suspended after failing to detect a dummy explosive device during a mock security drill—the failure prompted immediate corrective measures and an upgrade in procedures .
