Heavy Rains Lash Maharashtra: Landslide at Mahalaxmi Fort, Train Delays and Flood Alerts in Mumbai & Pune

Mumbai/Pune: Continuous heavy rainfall has thrown life out of gear across Maharashtra, with flooding, landslides, and transport disruptions reported since Saturday midnight.

Landslide at Mahalaxmi Temple Fort (Dahanu): A major landslide struck the fort hill near the Mahalaxmi Temple in Dahanu taluka, damaging several shops. Authorities have restricted entry to the fort and urged devotees to avoid visiting until further notice.

Mumbai Train Services Affected: Suburban train operations were delayed, with Central Railway running 15–20 minutes late and Western Railway facing 5–10 minute delays.

Villages Cut Off in Latur: Overflowing water from the Tiru River has cut road access to several villages including Shivajinagar Tanda, Mevapoor, and Chincholi. District officials are assessing the damage.

Temples & Villages Submerged: In Kamari village, floods from the Pan River have submerged the local Hanuman temple and surrounding areas. Residents fear worsening conditions.

Dam Releases & Alerts: In Hingoli–Yavatmal, 13 gates of the Ispapur Dam were opened to release 25,300 cusecs of water into the Pan River. Warnings have been issued for downstream villages.

Tulshee Lake Overflows: One of Mumbai’s main reservoirs, Tulshee Lake, overflowed on August 16 evening, highlighting the intensity of the rainfall.

Authorities across the state remain on high alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) continues to forecast heavy showers for Mumbai, Pune, and other districts.
