Mumbai:- A powerful monsoon surge is set to batter Maharashtra’s Konkan coast today, triggering a series of weather warnings across the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall along the Konkan shoreline, while Satara and Kolhapur districts remain under orange to red alert status.
Konkan Coast: Widespread rain with occasional heavy downpours anticipated throughout the day. Residents are advised to exercise caution near water bodies and avoid unnecessary travel during intense showers.
Satara & Kolhapur Ghats: The hilly areas of Satara and Kolhapur are expected to experience “heavy to very heavy” rainfall. The IMD has placed these regions under a red alert in view of potential hazards such as landslides and flash floods.
Wider Maharashtra Impact: The rain-bearing system may also extend into nearby areas including Raigad, Pune, Sindhudurg, and Ratnagiri—some of which are under elevated weather alerts due to thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Impacts & Advisory:
Expect waterlogging, overflowing streams, and potential disruptions to road and rail travel in both coastal and hilly zones.
Locals are urged to stay informed through official IMD updates and to avoid traveling in high-risk zones during peak rainfall periods.
The IMD warns of conditions that could lead to landslides, flooding, and strong winds, particularly in the ghats and riverine villages.
