Mumbai : After years of anticipation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Navi Mumbai International Airport (officially renamed as Loknete DB Patil Navi Mumbai International Airport) on October 8. However, commercial flight operations are expected to begin in December 2025, according to CIDCO MD and Vice Chairman Vijay Singhal.

The new airport, spread across 1,160 hectares with two runways and four interconnected terminals, is being developed with seamless connectivity in mind—through metro, rail, waterways, and road.

Metro Link: The upcoming Metro Line 8 will directly connect Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai to Navi Mumbai Airport, reducing travel time to just 30 minutes.

Railway Access: Targhar Railway Station, located close to the airport, is nearly complete and awaiting final inspection before opening for passengers.

Water Taxi Service: The state government is planning a water taxi route between Gateway of India’s Radio Jetty and the airport, cutting travel time to about 40 minutes.

Automated People Movers (APM): Within the airport itself, driverless underground trains will connect all four terminals, allowing passengers to check in at one terminal and board from another with ease.

With these multiple modes of transport, authorities aim to make the new airport easily accessible for Mumbaikars and international travelers alike.
