Bengaluru : A special court in Bengaluru has sentenced former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna to life imprisonment in a rape case involving a 47-year-old domestic worker. The court also imposed a fine between ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh.
Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, was accused of repeatedly raping and threatening the woman between 2021 and 2024 at his farmhouse. The victim stated that Revanna used explicit video recordings to silence her.
The case gained national attention earlier this year when several objectionable videos allegedly featuring Revanna were leaked online ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Following this, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed and four FIRs were registered against him under various sections of the IPC and IT Act.
Revanna was arrested on May 31, 2024, after returning from abroad, and has been in judicial custody since. During sentencing, he reportedly broke down in court and pleaded for leniency.
The court’s judgment marks a significant moment in holding powerful individuals accountable and underlines the importance of justice for victims of sexual violence.
