Mumbai, Oct 1: A 65-year-old man, identified as Prem Bajaj, attempted to set himself on fire outside the main gate of Mantralaya on Tuesday evening in protest against alleged government inaction on his repeated complaints.

According to Marine Drive Police, the incident occurred around 4:55 p.m. Bajaj, a resident of Garden View Society in Koparkhairane, Navi Mumbai, claimed that he had been suffering due to the 24-hour operations of a nearby dry fruit factory. Despite filing multiple complaints with the authorities, no measures were taken, prompting him to resort to an extreme step.

Bajaj allegedly poured a flammable substance on himself before police officers on duty, including Sub-Inspector Nagaral and his team, intervened and prevented the self-immolation attempt.

He was immediately taken into custody and shifted to the Marine Drive Police Station in a Colaba Mobile-1 vehicle. The matter is currently under investigation.
