Bhiwandi : Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has assured that the new Development Plan (DP) for Bhiwandi, which sparked controversy for allegedly endangering temples, mosques, cemeteries, and memorials while benefiting the builder lobby, will be put on hold until full consultations are held with all stakeholders.
Representatives from Aas Bibi Masjid Dargah and Cemetery, Nagina Masjid, Hazrat Subhani Dargah Trust, Chitla Devi Mandir, Markeshwar Mandir, Hanuman Mandir, Sai Baba Mandir, Murlidhar Mandir, Shankar Mandir, and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial met Maharashtra Samajwadi Party President and MLA Abu Asim Azmi to voice their concerns.
They alleged that the ₹1,700 crore metro project—originally approved as an underground line by then CM Devendra Fadnavis—has been altered to an overground route, threatening several religious and commercial establishments along Kalyan Road.
Following a detailed meeting at Shinde’s residence, the Deputy CM reviewed DP maps and assured stakeholders that the project will not move forward without wider departmental and community consultations.
