London: Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh has responded to the growing backlash surrounding the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3. Speaking in an interview with BBC Asian Network, Dosanjh clarified the context in which the film was made and defended the producers’ decision regarding its release.
“When this film was made, everything was fine. We shot it in February, and the situation at the time was normal,” Dosanjh said. “A lot has changed since then—things beyond our control. The producers have now decided that the film won’t release in India but overseas instead.”
Addressing concerns from viewers questioning the timing and casting, the Amar Singh Chamkila star emphasized that the production team had made their decisions long before recent political tensions. “Producers have invested a lot of money, and when the film was being made, there was no controversy. Of course, removing an entire territory like India from the release means there will be financial loss,” he added.
Dosanjh stated his support for the producers’ revised strategy: “Even when I signed the film, everything was okay. Now, the situation is not in our hands. If they want to release it abroad, I completely support that.”
The film’s overseas release is expected to move forward as planned, even as the controversy continues to generate discussion on social media and within entertainment circles.
