Thane : The Guardian Minister of Thane district and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde hoisted the national flag at the District Collector’s office courtyard today, marking India’s 79th Independence Day. Extending heartfelt wishes, he urged citizens never to forget the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation and expressed confidence in the country’s ongoing progress, noting India’s economic leap from the fourth to the third largest in the world.

He highlighted strong responses to terrorism, citing ‘Operation Sindoor’ and ‘Operation Mahadev’ as decisive actions against Pakistan-backed militants. Addressing global economic challenges, including U.S. tariff decisions, he assured that India’s self-reliance would shield its economy from major impacts.

Emphasising Thane’s growth, Shinde noted the Mahayuti government’s allocation of ₹3,000 crore to the district, with major projects including bullet trains, metro lines, roads, bridges, the Thane-Borivali tunnel, and the Coastal Highway. The first trial of the Thane Metro will be completed in September, and an internal metro has been approved. The renovated Gadkari Rangayatan theatre was also inaugurated today.

The event was attended by MP Naresh Mhaske, MLA Sanjay Kelkar, former MLA Ravindra Phatak, District Collector Dr. Shri Krishna Panchal, Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumre, and senior officials of the Thane district administration.
