Pandharpur : A question of religious and political significance has arisen ahead of Kartiki Ekadashi at the Vitthal Temple in Pandharpur. Traditionally, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra performs the annual Mahapooja.
This year, however, the situation is unusual as the state has two Deputy Chief Ministers — Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde. The temple authorities are uncertain about who should receive the ceremonial honour.
To avoid controversy, the committee has requested guidance from the Law and Justice Department of the Maharashtra government. The final decision, based on this legal opinion, will determine who performs the ritual on November 2.
The development has drawn wide attention, with both devotees and political circles awaiting clarity on the matter.
