Nagpur :- Clearing operations are ongoing at the Shri Mahalaxmi Jagdamba Temple in Koradi after a slab at the under-construction rear (VIP/Ramayana) gate collapsed late Saturday, leaving 17 labourers injured. Some workers were on the scaffolding when it gave way, but no fatalities have been reported.
Teams from the NDRF, police, fire brigade, NMRDA and other agencies rushed to the site, rescuing those trapped and moving them to nearby hospitals. District Collector Vipin Itankar confirmed that all injured workers are under medical care and rescue protocols are being followed.
Preliminary findings suggest the incident occurred when a cuplock joint in the scaffolding broke during the casting of an RCC slab between two columns—part of phases 3 and 4 of the NMRDA’s ₹214.94-crore temple redevelopment project. The initiative includes a grand entrance gate, administrative building, ticket counter, parking facilities, a Ramayana Museum and a 151-foot Hanuman statue, set to be Maharashtra’s tallest.
Authorities have launched an inquiry to determine the exact cause and possible negligence by contractors. The area remains cordoned off as search and clearance work continues to ensure no one is still trapped beneath the debris.
