Mumbai :- Mumbai’s Dadar turned tense on August 13, 2025, as Marathi Ekikaran Samiti members backed the Bombay High Court’s ban on feeding pigeons at the Kabutar Khana, citing health hazards. Opposing them, the Jain community—viewing pigeon feeding as a religious duty—removed covers placed to enforce the ban and continued the practice. The confrontation led to heated exchanges with police. A hunger strike announced by a Jain monk was temporarily halted after discussions with the Chief Minister’s Office. The state is now under pressure to find a middle ground between public health and religious traditions.
