PUNE : Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis chaired a high-level meeting to review the update of the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for the Pune Metropolitan Region. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol, Minister Chandrakant Patil, and senior officials.
Fadnavis directed authorities to implement long-term measures to address traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad over the next 30 years. The plan, worth ₹1.3 lakh crore, includes an initial investment of ₹62,000 crore in the first phase. Key proposals involve developing grade separators, tunnels, and ring roads, alongside enhancing public transport coverage so that every citizen is within 500 meters of a service point.
The first phase aims to increase public transport usage to 30%, with a long-term goal of reaching 50%. Responsibilities for execution will be clearly assigned to various departments. The Chief Minister also instructed planners to design infrastructure that would raise the average vehicular speed in the metropolis to 30 km/h.
