Mumbai : A high-level presentation meeting regarding the establishment of the Maharashtra State River Revival Authority (MSRRA) was held today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Mantralaya, Mumbai. Minister Pankaja Munde and other senior officials were also present.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis gave the green signal to initiate the establishment of the MSRRA, a landmark authority dedicated to the revival and rejuvenation of rivers across Maharashtra. The move marks a crucial step toward reducing river pollution and restoring the natural ecosystem and flow of rivers in the state.
CM Fadnavis emphasized that the authority will play a pivotal role in developing sustainable strategies for river revival. Its responsibilities will include approving Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), managing riverbank zones, resolving issues related to encroachments, electricity, and landslides, and recommending suitable projects under national-level schemes.
The Chief Minister will serve as the Chairman of the Authority, while the State Environment Minister will act as Vice President and lead the state-level executive committee. This committee will also include technical experts, financial and legal advisors, the Member Secretary of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), and professionals from reputed institutions such as IITs.
To ensure smooth day-to-day functioning, a dedicated secretariat will be formed with the MPCB Member Secretary as its head.
The meeting underlined the state government’s strong commitment to river conservation and sustainable water management.
