Mumbai : Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra: The festive spirit of Bail Pola on Friday, August 22, turned chaotic in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar when a decorated bull went out of control, injuring several people.
Bail Pola, a traditional Maharashtrian festival, is celebrated to honour bulls and oxen, which play a vital role in farming and transportation. On this day, bulls are bathed, painted, and adorned with flowers, ribbons, and bells. Processions are held with dhols, tashas, and other musical instruments, while families prepare traditional dishes like Puran Poli and decorate their homes with torans and rangolis.
During the celebration in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, a bull broke free from the procession and charged into the crowd. Villagers ran in panic as the animal struck several people, leaving many injured. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
Authorities noted that such incidents are not uncommon during Bail Pola, especially during bullock cart races and crowded processions, and have urged caution in future celebrations.
