Mumbai : The Kasturba Marg Police in Borivali have arrested a suspect involved in a major jewellery theft at a shop in Kamothe, Panvel, and recovered the entire stolen haul.
According to police, on Saturday, during a patrol near Borivali, the Crime Prevention Team noticed a man roaming suspiciously. Upon questioning and checking his bag, it was revealed that he had stolen gold ornaments from a jewellery store in Kamothe’s Sector 12 and was heading to his hometown in Rajasthan.
The team immediately contacted Navi Mumbai Crime Branch Unit 3, who confirmed that a theft had occurred earlier that day at Parasnath Jewellers in Kamothe. The accused was then handed over to Navi Mumbai Police along with the stolen valuables.
The arrested accused has been identified as Karansingh Nathusingh Kharwar (18), a resident of Rajsamand district, Rajasthan.
Police sources revealed that the accused had joined the jewellery store barely five days ago. On Saturday afternoon, when the shop owner stepped out for lunch, Kharwar allegedly took advantage of the situation, looted the shop, and fled.
He was on his way to Rajasthan via Borivali when the patrol team intercepted him. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and claimed he committed the theft to recover expenses of nearly ₹6–7 lakh incurred during his marriage last year.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of DCP Zone 12 (in-charge) Anand Bhoite, ACP Dahisar Division Malojiraje Shinde, Senior PI Jayraj Ranavare, and PI (Crime) Subhash Jadhav. API Dhiraj Vaikos and other Kasturba Marg Police personnel also played a key role in the action.
Police seized 78 tolas of gold ornaments, 18 small diamonds, and ₹1,39,200 in cash, with a total estimated value of around ₹70–72 lakh.
