BMC Reinstalls Cover at Dadar Kabutarkhana After Jain Community Protest

Mumbai : Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has once again covered the Dadar Kabutarkhana with tarpaulin after members of the Jain community tore down the previous cover during a recent protest. The demonstration, which saw around 500 participants, was staged against the High Court’s directive restricting mass pigeon feeding, citing it as a public health hazard.

Following the incident, BMC officials swiftly repaired the site, installed fresh coverings, and deployed marshals to prevent further disruptions. The civic body has also tightened security to ensure compliance with the ban.

The controversy intensified after the Supreme Court upheld the High Court order. In response, a Jain monk announced a hunger strike from August 13 and warned of stronger actions if the restrictions continue. Political leaders have since called for calm, with some suggesting regulated feeding times as a middle ground.
