BMC Launches Special Garbage Collection Service for Sanitary Pads, Diapers, and Expired Medicines

Mumbai :- In a significant move towards better waste management, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has introduced a dedicated garbage collection service for sanitary pads, diapers, and expired medicines. The initiative aims to ensure the safe disposal of these non-biodegradable and potentially hazardous items while reducing environmental pollution.
Under the new system, residents can dispose of sanitary pads, diapers, and expired medicines in separate bins provided by the BMC. The civic body will collect these items separately and process them through appropriate disposal methods, including incineration for sanitary waste and safe destruction for expired medicines.
A BMC official stated, “This step will help in proper segregation and disposal of sanitary and medical waste, preventing contamination of regular garbage and reducing health risks.” The initiative is part of BMC’s broader Swachh Mumbai campaign to promote cleanliness and sustainable waste management practices.
Citizens have welcomed the move, calling it a much-needed solution for hygienic and eco-friendly waste disposal. The BMC has also urged housing societies and commercial establishments to actively participate in the initiative for its success.
This special waste collection service is expected to significantly improve public health and environmental safety in Mumbai.
