Mumbai : In the wake of heavy rains, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Solid Waste Management Department has undertaken a large-scale cleanliness campaign to clear garbage piled up along Mumbai’s beaches.
From August 15 to 23, a total of 952 metric tonnes of waste was removed across Swarajyabhoomi (Girgaon), Dadar, Mahim, Juhu, Vesave (Versova), Madh-Marve and Gorai beaches. Nearly 380 employees worked tirelessly round the clock with the help of six plants to restore cleanliness and improve the beauty of these coastal stretches.
The garbage collection drive recorded the following results:
Swarajyabhoomi – 23 MT (16 manpower, 1 plant)
Dadar-Mahim – 300 MT (48 manpower, 1 plant)
Vesave (Versova) – 200 MT (120 manpower, 1 plant)
Juhu – 375 MT (150 manpower, 1 plant)
Madh-Marve – 34.5 MT (35 manpower, 1 plant)
Gorai – 20 MT (14 manpower, 1 plant)
The civic body has assured that efforts will continue to keep Mumbai’s beaches clean and safe for citizens.
