BMC Introduces Fast-Track Online Marriage Registration With QR-Enabled Certificates

Mumbai, Sept 28 — The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has rolled out a fast-track online marriage registration system, available Monday to Friday through its official portal on an appointment basis.

Certificates issued under this service will carry a QR code for digital verification and will soon be integrated with DigiLocker for secure, paperless access. With this, the BMC has become the first civic body in the country to offer marriage registration services even on weekends and public holidays.

According to officials, around 30,000 to 35,000 marriages are registered annually in Mumbai. Both the fast-track weekday service and the weekend service (Saturdays and Sundays) can be availed by paying the standard fee plus an additional ₹2,500.

For weekend registrations, couples must submit online appointment applications by 5:00 PM on the previous day. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. On weekdays, fast-track applications can be submitted and processed on the same day, ensuring same-day issuance of certificates for urgent needs.

All registrations will be processed online, and verified certificates will be delivered directly to applicants via email.

In a recent policy reform, the government removed the earlier restriction that limited registrations to marriages solemnized within Maharashtra. Now, couples married anywhere in India or abroad can register their marriage with the BMC office that has jurisdiction over the current residence of either spouse.
